Photography Paraphernalia

Lamp

Photography lamps are useful for portraits or product photography. They have a filter or an umbrella to soften the light so the light is not too harsh on your subject. They are portable and can be positioned in different areas around your subject.

Backup Battery

Your camera will come with one battery, but if you work in the field or travel with your camera, you will want a spare battery. Batteries take a few hours to recharge, so you do not want to have a dead battery in the middle a photo shoot. You will also want to purchase a few extra memory cards. Since DSLR cameras can take such large photos, memory cards can fill up fast. Some photographers like to keep many cards on hand so they can use one per subject until they are uploaded to a computer.

Camera Bag

A camera bag is essential if you are going to travel. Look for one that has adjustable compartments to separate lenses, flash, and your camera. These compartments should be padded to keep your equipment safe. A backpack style bag is convenient for walking with your camera. Some bags will even hold your laptop, mp3 player, and have extra compartments.

Filter

To protect your expensive lens, you will want to purchase an inexpensive UV filter. This is a small, flat disc that screws on the end of the lens. It filters UV light and reduces glare to protect your camera and your eyes. It also protects your expensive lens against scratches and dust. Other filters are also available and can alter the look of your photos. You can get different colors or special effect filters for most lenses. Some filters can act as a faux macro or fish eye effect.

Computer

A computer is also needed for digital photography. Once you upload your photos, you can use a graphic program for post processing your photos. You can adjust the exposure, colors, and even add special effects. You will need a computer with plenty of hard drive space or an external hard drive. You will also need a good graphics program for the best post processing results.

Tips on Flower Photography

INTRODUCTION:-

Flower photography is not only a great way to spend your time learning different photography techniques it is also a great way to add to your home decor! Flowers are a fantastic subject, not just because of their beauty, but also because of their availability. If you don’t have any flowers in your own yard to photograph you don’t have to go far to find some. You can easily photograph flowers at your local park, the Mall, a restaurant, a friends garden, a community garden, just about every where you go there are flowers.

If you don’t want to photograph flowers in their natural setting you can purchase flowers in most grocery stores or at a local flower shop to take home and photograph in a studio setting. In fact, it’s hard to find a legitimate reason for not photographing flowers.

Here is a list of 10 tips that will help you create some amazing flower photography.

1.         One of the first things you need to do with digital photography is to make sure you are using the correct white balance settings. If your camera has the option, I recommend that you use the manual white balance function. If not, then use whatever setting is appropriate for the lighting you are shooting with. The equivalent to white balance if you are shooting film is color balance. If you are shooting outside be sure you are using daylight balanced film. I also suggest that with daylight balanced film outdoors that you use a slight warming filter. Most of the flower photography that you may do will either be in shade or on an overcast day creating a much bluer light then the film is balanced for. On the flip side, if shooting indoors with incandescent lighting or normal house lights you should be using tungsten balanced film. If the indoor lighting is being supplied by florescent light, then use a florescent filter with daylight balanced film. This is just a starting point. Experiment, mix it up. You can get some fantastic special effects that way.

2.         Always use a tripod. Not only will a tripod steady your camera and help you achieve a much sharper image, but it will also force you to think about your composition. You will have to place the flowers in your photographic image much more deliberately instead of just pointing your camera and shooting away.

3. Don’t just take a snapshot of a flower that interests you and then move on. Set up your first shot to include the whole flower then concentrate on the details of the flower that attract your eye. Focus on the color or small details of the flower.

4. Control your depth of field. If you are photographing a single flower with a busy background then use a wide aperture to selectively focus on the flower and blur out the background. Conversely, if you are photographing a field of flowers the use a smaller aperture setting to bring most, if not all the flowers into focus. If your camera has a depth of field preview then this is the time to use it.

5.Look for the unusual. Some examples would be snow or ice on a flower, A flower growing out of concrete or even a dead flower that has an interesting look.

6. Don’t put your camera away just because it’s cloudy or looks like a storm is coming. Colors really pop at this time and you can get some amazing photographs in these conditions.

7.Photograph your flowers from different angles. Shoot straight down, from the side, from the underneath, just change it up a little.

8.Have fun with it. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try different things. Once you think you have the photograph in the bag, get wacky with it!

Understanding Your Camera (Basics)

NOTE:-All camera models are marked differently and will definitely vary in looks and functionality when compared to the image given below. The labels are placed just to make you aware of the different parts of a camera and to introduce you to some words that will be used frequently in the following blog..

Auto Focus [AF]Sensor: This sensor helps the camera achieve accurate focus. It does this by using contrast sensors within the camera{passive AF} which senses the changes the dark light areas of  the scenes. Some cameras instead send out infrared beams to illuminate or to calculate the distance to the subject. Some high-end cameras use a combination of both.

Contrast Sensors:- A contrast sensor is a device that uses coloured or laser light sources to differentiate various colours or shades.

Viewfinder:- The viewfinder is the eyepiece through which the photographer looks at the scene to be photographed. There are 2 types of viewfinders----Optical Viewfinder & Electronic Viewfinder[EVF]. An optical viewfinder will show you an image the you see it with your naked eye;it does not reflect any changes in the image although you might have changed the camera settings. An [EVF] shows the true picture. Apart from displaying the camera information,it also displays how the image would look with a the camera settings applied....

Built-in Flash:- Most digital cameras have a built-in flash that provides extra light in the dark. It can also be used creatively along with other lights to provide highlights and remove shadows.

Lens:- digital cameras are equipped with zoom lenses that change the focal length in order to zoom in and zoom out from the scene. Some lenses are marked with 'IS' which stands for Image Stabilization. What this means is that your camera is receptive to a limited camera shake which is most common when taking a zoomed in (telephoto) picture.

Magic Of Photography

INTRODUCTION:-

Buying Guide for Beginner Photography

Photography can be a very fun hobby, but it can also be an expensive hobby. Almost all photography equipment is expensive, and it's difficult to know what to buy when starting out. Before investing a lot of money into your hobby, read reviews of equipment you are going to buy. Know what kind of photography you are going to be doing, as each type has different needs.

Camera

The camera you choose is the most important investment. A digital single lens reflex (DSLR) is the standard for professional photographers. DLSR cameras have larger image sensors which produce photos with more megapixels for high quality pictures. Focusing speed is much faster on a DSLR camera and shutter lag is low, which means you can get good photographs from high action settings or low light scenes. The ISO range is also much higher which gives you more flexibility in shooting different conditions. For a great depth of field, a DLSR is almost a must.

Photographs are always a wonderful way of capturing and keeping good times,so why not make them as wonderful as the moments we wish them to capture....????
